I know what you’re thinking, but hear me out. For those of you who are currently employed, or who are looking for work, this seems like the total opposite of what you might think. If asked, your list of emotions might look more like: scared, depressed, desperate, lonely, jealous, frustrated and embarrassed.
While it’s true that all those emotions can be there at the outset, I'm here to tell you that it is possible to pull the old switcheroo on those bad boys and end up with the opposite list: hopeful, confident, excited, proud and, yes, even empowered.
When was the last time (amidst your day-to-day grind of endless projects and responsibilities) you examined all of those amazing things you have accomplished throughout your career? What achievements! What success! What joy! When you are looking for work, whether you are looking to move up, move out or move on, this is your opportunity to take a step back and revel in all the wins you’ve had.
When was the last time you really asked yourself what makes you happy? What do you want your future to look like? When you are looking for a new or better job, you also have the chance to evaluate and prioritize roles that made you feel like a million bucks (“I’m basically the greatest thing that’s EVER happened to the universe!”) and avoid those that made you feel exhausted and grateful for the finality of the project. (“I never want to do that again!”).
If you've been down this path, then you know what I’m talking about! If not, then keep reading. Go on a journey to meet your best self. The self you want to be, and the self you know deep down that you are.
It takes work. It takes time. It takes an investment in yourself. But, while you're executing the process that fuels success, you are discovering the greatest and most positive aspects of what you bring to the table. You are meeting with influential business leaders who are looking for someone like you to help them tackle similar challenges. You are equipping yourself with coaching to hone not just your resume skills but your interview, your elevator pitch, your network, your follow-up and your negotiation skills.
Instead of sending another job application into the "black hole" or pouring your time and energy into finding a better word than “servant leader” to headline your LinkedIn profile, wouldn't you rather learn how to showcase your solutions, meet with hiring managers who appreciate what you bring to the table and cultivate target job opportunities that create mutually beneficial outcomes? Once you get there you are empowered to demonstrate your true leadership skills. You are primed for their questions. You know your cues. You are not just prepared, but excited to learn, help and grow. Doesn’t that sound EMPOWERING?
The tools are out there. The support is out there. The coaches are out there.
Congratulations! You just found them.
YOU ATTRACT THE OPPORTUNITIES YOU DESERVE. EXCELLENCE STARTS HERE.
